COVID Test to Release (Day 5) and Day 2 and Day 8 Testing
The Walcote Practice is a UK Government approved provider of Day 2 and Day 8 COVID-19 screening and the Day 5 “Test to Release” scheme for international arrivals, as well as general COVID-19 testing. Whilst the Day 2 and Day 8 screening is a mandatory requirement, the optional Test to Release scheme allows that those arriving/ returning from a country not on the government’s restricted list can reduce quarantine requirement from ten days on the basis of a negative approved COVID-19 test on the fifth day.
Why use The Walcote Practice for Test to Release and Day 2&8 Screening?
We are a small independent practice serving the needs of patients in Winchester, Hampshire and beyond. We elected to become part of the arrivals screening and Test to Release provision in order to ensure that a comprehensive suite of services are available to existing and prospective clients during the pandemic period. Each test request is approved, tracked and results returned by one of our GPs, who are directly accountable for quality and outcomes. We pride ourselves on our efficiency and responsiveness. We envisage that those most likely to benefit from our service would be local clients who can deliver their samples into reception on a weekday morning to take advantage of our laboratory courier service for a next day result, potentially ending their quarantine period on Day 6.
How does the COVID arrivals screening and “Test to Release” process work?
You can order your test kits from The Walcote Practice by submitting your details using the form below. The test kits should be requested and paid for at least 48hrs before arrival in the UK. You will then be sent your receipted invoice and passenger locator code/s. Please also remember to fill in the passenger locator form at this point. We cannot guarantee the timely arrival of kits in the circumstance of late submission.
On arrival, you should proceed directly to your place of quarantine and start self isolating as per government instructions.
You will receive your sample kits by post. Please follow the clear instructions to take a nasal and throat sample. Preferably, the samples should be dropped at our reception in Winchester on a weekday morning prior to midday for same day courier service to the laboratory. Alternatively, return in the registered envelope provided, in a priority post box prior to the last post. Once the sample arrives, our laboratory will conduct Gold Standard RT PCR testing within 24hrs. Please note that we cannot accommodate clients for recent arrival/ Test to Release sampling in person due to the need to reduce risk to our registered patients/ staff and maintain strict infection control measures at the surgery.
When will I receive my result?
As soon as we receive your result from our laboratory, we will forward the result/ certificate to you by email. Samples delivered to reception prior to midday on a weekday will return a result by end of the next day, whilst results on posted samples may take two working days from sending. Reception and the laboratory are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays – please take this into account when planning your return of samples. For Test to Release, a negative result on Day 5 allows that you can potentially cease self isolation on Day 6 for a sample delivered to reception for courier, although results on posted samples will take longer, particularly if posted over the weekend. If the result is positive you and your household must continue to self isolate for a further ten days from the date of the sampling, as per government advice.
The fee structure for this service is as follows:
Test to Release Day 5 alone: £210
Essential travel test package (Day 2&8): £230
Full arrivals screening package (Days 2&8 plus Test to Release Day 5): £425
Should you wish to proceed, please complete the form below, submit and provide payment (you will be directed to a card payment facility on submission of details).
