We are a family-friendly practice and we have created a warm and welcoming environment for children in our consultation rooms, including a colourful basket of toys and books for their entertainment.

Mental Health and/or Neurodevelopmental Issues in Under 18’s

Should you wish to book a Private GP consultation regarding a mental health or neurodevelopmental issue within a child or young person who is aged under 18 years, please be aware of the following:

  • The GP will be able to conduct the initial appointment for the child or young person.
  • In many cases, the GP will be able to provide treatment measures and/or advice.
  • Where the GP feels that a specialist assessment or referral is required, the GP will be able to discuss this with you and to make the referral.
  • In the UK, certain medications cannot be prescribed to under 18’s without the child or young person first being assessed by a psychiatrist, who will then authorise a prescription for the relevant medication where appropriate.
  • This may then be followed by a period of shared care between the GP and the psychiatrist.
  • Unfortunately at present, even within the Private Healthcare sector, there can at times be a significant wait following referral before a child psychiatrist appointment becomes available.
  • Our GPs can advise on this and on helpful measures and resources in the interim for the child or young person, and/or their family.
