Private COVID PCR Tests for Travel

The Walcote Practice is a UKAS ISO 15189 accredited private provider of COVID PCR tests for travel including pre-departure and UK international arrivals (Day 2) COVID-19 screening, as well as general COVID-19 testing. All of our screening employs the gold standard RT PCR COVID-19 method – we do not provide lateral flow antigen screening. We are a listed provider on the UK government website. For convenience and transparency, our flat fee for all purposes is £125 per individual, including certification.

Why use The Walcote Practice for COVID PCR Testing?

We are a small independent practice serving the needs of patients in Winchester, Hampshire and beyond. We elected to become part of the General COVID testing and UK arrivals screening provision in order to ensure that a comprehensive suite of services are available to existing and prospective clients during the pandemic period. Each test request is approved, tracked and results returned by one of our GPs, who are directly accountable for quality and outcomes. We pride ourselves on our efficiency and responsiveness. We envisage that those most likely to benefit from our service would be local clients who can attend in person or deliver their samples into reception on a weekday morning, to take advantage of our laboratory courier service for result early next morning.

How does the COVID PCR screening process work?

For all pre-departure travel and general screening COVID-19 PCR test enquiries, please call reception on 01962 828715 within office hours or email info@thewalcotepractice.co.uk with your details and circumstances including date required, and informing us of your destination’s screening requirements, if relevant. Please note that it is your responsibility to inform us of the specific requirements for the Fit to Fly Certificate of your destination country, as these frequently change. We provide early morning next day reporting/ certification on a weekday morning COVID-19 PCR test sample. Where more urgent or specified turnaround times are required, these can also usually be accommodated; however, please discuss your particular requirements prior to booking.

What if I have recently had COVID and am still testing positive on PCR after completing the isolation period?

We are also able to provide Statements of Recovery from COVID-19 in the context of infection within the last 90 days, once you have recovered and completed isolation and where this is allowable by your specific destination. The fee is £85 – please email info@thewalcotepractice.co.uk with your details, PCR result and isolation dates.

What about COVID PCR testing on entering/ returning to the UK?

If you’re fully vaccinated, you no longer need to take a COVID-19 test either before or after you arrive in the UK. You still need to complete a passenger locator form.

If you are not fully vaccinated, you need to take a pre-departure test. After you arrive, you need to take a PCR test on or before day 2, but you only need to quarantine if it’s positive. You still need to complete a passenger locator form.

For unvaccinated returning travellers/ UK arrivals, you can order your test kits from The Walcote Practice by submitting your details using the form below. The test kits should be requested and paid for at least 48hrs before arrival in the UK. You will then be sent your receipted invoice and passenger locator code/s.  Please also remember to fill in the passenger locator form at this point. We cannot guarantee the timely arrival of kits in the circumstance of late submission.

You will receive your sample kits by post – these are posted on your arrival date to arrive with you the following day so that you are available to accept delivery. Please follow the clear instructions to take a nasal and throat sample. Preferably, the samples should be dropped at our reception in Winchester on a weekday morning prior to midday for same day courier service to the laboratory. Alternatively, return in the registered envelope provided, in a priority post box prior to the last post. Once the sample arrives, our laboratory will conduct RT PCR testing within 24hrs. Please note that we cannot recent arrivals for sampling in person due to the need to reduce risk to our registered patients/ staff and maintain strict infection control measures at the surgery.

When will I receive my result?

As soon as we receive your result from our laboratory, we will forward the result/ certificate to you by email. Samples delivered to reception prior to midday on a weekday will return a result early next day, whilst results on posted samples may take two working days from sending. Reception and the laboratory are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays and we can only accept samples on a Saturday morning by prior arrangement of a dedicated courier – please take this into account when planning your return of samples. If the result is positive you and your household must continue to self isolate as per government advice.

Please file a separate form submission for each family/ group member and pay individually.  Before submitting the form, please ensure accuracy as a single incorrect detail may invalidate your request or incur delays. We will confirm receipt of details and your passenger locator code/s will be emailed separately along with your receipted invoice. Submissions are processed in order within working hours – we will create your record/ laboratory request and issue the code as soon as we can but there may be a delay of an hour or two during busy periods.
